welcome to "thevideodredd", a personal site dedicated to lovin DVDs + slasher movies, and advocating for the preservation of physical media! things are a little bare bones round here right now, but i'm workin on it.
what IS physical media?
"physical media" is an umbrella term that encompasses any content one can own a hard copy of. common examples include books, CDs, vinyl records, VHS tapes, cassette tapes and DVDs.
why is physical media so important?
in short, physicality means ownership- digital content, even when purchased, can be pulled, discontinued or altered at the drop of a hat. when content is widely available in a physical format, this can prevent it from becoming lost media, preserves the content in its original state, and helps keep the content accessible to all.
why did you create this site?
a variety of reasons. as i'm sure you've gathered, i'm very pro DVD culture- i wanted a place to yap about my passion for physical media, and i love the low-pressure and fully-customizable style of personal websites. i'm also the #1 hater of meta/ai/web 3, and the mere act of maintaining a neocities site is like a wee "fuck you" to the corporate internet. you can read more about all of this and more in my blogposts, which are all pretty physical media/dvd based.
